For those who like to conquer the summits, The Great Glamorgan Way offers a network of bridleways and cycle paths through mountains and trails brimming with natural beauty, offering journeys rich in scenery and Welsh charm.
If the sea air is calling - Porthcawl has a seafront cycle path with beautiful coastal views, passing by Porthcawl’s many attractions and places to grab a bite to eat along the way.
Looking for something more adventurous? The Darren Fawr trails will test the mettle of the most daring mountain bikers, as well as offering tracks for beginners. Over in Maesteg, the Llynfi BMX Racing Club offers opportunities for locals and visitors to enjoy action-packed sessions at their track.
2. Explore the Wales Coast Path
Wales was the first country in the world to have a continuous coastal path when The Wales Coast Path was first opened in 2012, with Bridgend County’s 11.5 mile stretch taking in interesting landmarks, amazing views and various attractions.
Spanning from Sker Beach to Ogmore By Sea, the route passes through secluded bays as well as including areas of historical interest, attractions such as Coney Beach Amusement Park and Porthcawl Marina, and opportunities to explore the shops, cafes and restaurants at Porthcawl. With two national nature reserves also along this part of the Wales Coast Path - those looking for challenging hikes can enjoy scaling the sand dunes at Kenfig National Nature Reserve and Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve. Kenfig National Nature Reserve
A Site of Specific Scientific Interest, Kenfig National Nature Reserve is a protected area where sand dunes blend seamlessly with salt marshes and wetlands and is ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and photography. The reserve offers a unique ecosystem and is famously home to the stunning Kenfig Pool.
Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve
Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve boasts one of the largest sand dune systems in Wales.
