Undoubtedly home to some of the best golfing in Britain, Bridgend has hosted the Senior Open on numerous occasions. He may not be able to compete with the professionals, but dad can still head down to the likes of Pyle & Kenfig and Royal Porthcawl to get a lesson from a couple of the resident pro's. Nothing says 'I love you, Dad' like riding the same wave together, and Bridgend offers up some of the very best surfing in the UK. If your dad is the 'hunter gatherer' type then he's going to love the opportunity to go foraging with Wild Spirit Bushcraft. There's the opportunity to seek out coastal delicacies or a full 3-day 'The Bushman' course that teaches a wide range of fascinating skills and techniques including wild food foraging, campfire cooking, preparing mammals, hammock and tarp set up and wood carving. For the dad who loves... walking
The programme for the Love2walk Festival has recently been unveiled and it is as varied as ever with walks for families and children, history buffs and nature lovers with a chance to try new experiences. A packed programme sees walks with our partners from Wartime Bridgend, Awen, Glamorgan Bird Club and Parklives. Walks will explore the forestry of the Garw Valley, a mysterious cave in the woods and this year will also see the return of Beginners Geocaching and a Wellness Walk with outdoor Tai Chi. Local experts and groups are involved with many of the walks so expect to learn more about the Borough and its nature and history. As in previous years all walks are free of charge although some require booking in advance as places are limited so, make sure you get your name down as they are sure to be popular. For further information and a programme of walks visit www.love2walk.co.uk, tel 01656 815217 or email love2walk@bridgend.gov.uk.
