Dust off your blue suede shoes and prepare to get all shook up - the Porthcawl Elvis Festival is returning to South Wales this September and its set to be bigger and better than ever with over 30,000 Elvis aficionados in attendance.
Here are just 5 must-sees at ElvisFest 2019:
1. A collision of kings: one of the world's biggest Elvis events
Porthcawl is not only one of the world's best-loved Elvis themed events, but also one of the biggest. The annual event unites over300,000Elvis fans in Bridgend County every year, making the scale of the celebration remarkable. People travel from far and wide to participate in the seaside town's famous, flamboyant festival. So grab your camera and prepare to pose with thousands of singing sensations.
2. Ain't nothing but a Hound Dog
You just can't help falling in love with the pooches of Porthcawl and their fantastic Presley-themed fancy-dress. Witness the unique spectacle of pooches of all shapes and sizes taking part in the 'Best Dressed Hound Dog' competition, donning the king's iconic outfits and accessories including dark sunglasses and rhinestone capes. This light-hearted, dog-friendly atmosphere adds additional joy and hilarity in equal measures for young and old visitors alike. Don't forget, there's also a two-day Elvis Pugfest event on John's Street.
3. Feel fabulous with the first LGBTQ+ Elvis category
We are singing from the rooftops in celebration of the first LGBTQ+ Elvis category that is premiering at this year's festival. Sweeping the stage and winning the 2019 title with his charming tribute is the iconic Elberace Gay Elvis. Renowned for his kitsch and saucy performances offering his unique take on the best of the King's work, ranging from an interactive singalong with Elberace to 'Yoo Hoo From Hawaii'.
4. Uncover the Porthcawl Fringe Festival
Sure, the Elvies may crown the true King of Kings but there's still plenty of fun to be had elsewhere. ElvisFest sponsors, Hi Tide, are hosting over 100 more intimate shows being held across the town in five venues throughout the weekend. Drop into Harbour Lights Bar or The Bayroom for the chance to discover raw, local talent without spending a penny. Grab some hot food and a cold drink before immersing yourself in the friendly, familiar atmosphere and spend an evening partying with the pretend Presleys.
5. Presley lovin' pubs
Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the annual festival is the truly unique atmosphere. From the pubs to the police officers, the festival unifies the entire community. Many of the local businesses commit to the affair by cladding storefronts in decorations and memorabilia such as flags and posters dedicated to the pop-star. This rock 'n' roll attitude across the town means that the festival isn't confined to the Grand Pavilion but instead spills onto the streets and continues long after the final elvis tribute has left the stage.
