The Standing Stone is a piece of grey sandstone, some 2.2m tall and dating from the Bronze Age. The stone is carved with cup marks (small circular depressions) and a series of vertical grooves on its northern side.

The stone, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, is located outside the Bridgend bowling club and tennis courts although originally, it is thought to have stood a few feet to the east of this location. Information relating to why it was placed here has long since been lost. The stone was moved slightly to the west in 1964 in order to create the new car park for the sports clubs along Angel Street Road. When the stone was moved, the cremated remains of part of an adult human were discovered. Local legend has it that the stone used to be seen on New Years Eve dancing down by the side of the river.
